The Newton Board of Aldermen will meet Tuesday, July 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the board room of Newton City Hall.

A new ordinance regulating dogs and other animals for residents in the City of Newton will go into effect 30 days from today.
The ordinance in its entirety can be found on Page 5B of today’s Newton County Appeal. The regulations were adopted by outgoing Board of Aldermen that only included two of the current aldermen.
Drivers on Brown Avenue in Newton may not be seeing new speed bumps, but they can expect to see a greater police presence.
Nikki Nichols addressed the Newton Board of Aldermen in June asking the aldermen to consider installing speed bumps on Brown Avenue. She said last month that drivers were speeding down the road.
The Newton Municipal School Board has hired Nola Bryant to lead the school district replacing current superintendent, Virginia Young, who is stepping down at the end of this month.
