An awesome message this morning at Grace United even though were few in number. Pray that this flu bug soon gets gone and everyone get well. So many around has the flu.
On Saturday the churches around Newton County had the privilege of going to New Fellowship Baptist Church to hear Cyndi Grace of Clinton. With the Womens’ Ministry and Teacher. If you didn’t get to go you missed a great Blessing. Cyndi Grace was born in Denver, Colo., into a military family. She became a Christian at the age of 10 in Atwater, Calif., and at the age of 18 in Long Beach, felt God calling her into full-time Christian ministry.
She is a graduate of Mississippi College and has a Women’s Ministry advanced certificate degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She and her husband, Jerry, have two grown children. In 1993, Cyndi’s “perfect life” crashed around her and she had to accept that she had been relying on her perceived perfection and not God’s grace. From that time God has richly blessed her with a heart for worship and a desire to minister to women who have hurts and needs in their lives.
Cyndi stays busy leading in conferences and retreats as well as an ongoing weekly Bible study. She feels that her call is to the woman in the pew who is searching for more! Cyndi’s Mission Statement is: the ministry’s sole purpose is with God’s guidance, to guide women into a closer relationship with Christ through teaching His Word and through sharing testimony of His faithfulness in my life. Cyndi states I want women to experience the abundant life Jesus promised not just to sit on a pew! If you get a chance to go to one of her conferences please do so. Will be a Blessing.
So sorry to hear that one of our columnist’s husband passed away. Our prayers are with you Ms. Agnes Russell and your family. My deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Royce Gale Russell, 76, of Decatur. Services was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union with burial in the Decatur City Cemetery. Bros. Ed Dickerson and Luke Way officiated.
Mr. Russell, 76, of Decatur, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lizzie Agnes Fairley Russell of Decatur; one son; four daughters, nine grandchildren; and two brothers.
Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Willie J. Russell and Mittie Hammond Russell; and five siblings.
Pallbearers were Kurt Glennon, Justin Russell, Chris Russell, Austin Davis, Jonathan Boudreaux and Bryan Davis.

Recipe for the week: German Chocolate Cake:
Ingredients: 1/2 cup boiling water, 4 ounces sweet cooking German chocolate, 2 cups sugar, 1 cup butter, softened, 4 egg yolks, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 1/2 cups cake flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 cup buttermilk, 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten, coconut pecan frosting, 1 cup sugar ( 1 1/2 cups), 1/2 cup butter ( 3/4 cups), 1 cup evaporated milk ( 12 oz. can), 1 teaspoon vanilla ( 1 1/2 teaspoon), 3 egg yolks ( 4 egg yolks), 1 1/3 cups flaked coconut ( 2 cups), 1 cup chopped pecans ( 1 1/2 cups).
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 9-inch square pans or 3 8-inch round pans. Pour boiling water on chocolate, stirring until chocolate is melted; cool.
Mix sugar and butter in large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs yolk, one at a time. Beat in chocolate and vanilla on low speed. Mix in flour, baking soda and salt alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition until batter is smooth. Fold in egg whites.
Divide batter among pans. Bake square pans 40-45 minutes or round pans 35-40 minutes. Check for doneness with toothpick in center. Cool and top with Coconut-Pecan Frosting. Coconut Pecan Frosting: Mix sugar, butter, milk, vanilla and egg yolks in saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until thick, about 12 minutes. Take off heat. Stir in coconut and pecans. Beat until spreading consistency. Allow to cool and thicken before icing cake.
