Newton Chamber accepting Christmas Parade entries

The Newton Chamber of Commerce is now accepting entries for its annual parade. The theme for the parade is “Winter Wonderland.”

The parade is a free entry, judged parade. Please no motorcycles or ATV’s unless it is a part of your float or main entry. Interested parties should call the Chamber office to be placed in the lineup. The deadline is Thursday, Nov. 30.

NCMHS Choirs to host annual Christmas concert

The public is invited to the Christmas concert featuring the choirs of Newton County Middle and High School at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 in the NCHS Gymnasium.

Union Chamber to host Christmas Parade on Dec. 2

The Union Chamber of Commerce will host the town’s annual Christmas parade at 6 p.m. Dec. 2.

This year’s theme is “The Meaning of Christmas.” Door prizes ranging from $100-$400 will be given away each half hour starting at 5 p.m. from the Union Mini Park Stage on Bank Street.

Winners must be present. Attendees can pre-register at Truhitt’s, Dr. Nicole Harrison’s office and Union Supply. Santa will be on hand along with hot cocoa and coffee and entertainment.

Greater Decatur Chamber and Woman’s Progressive Club to host Decatur Christmas Parade

The Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce and the GFWC-MFWC Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club will host the annual Decatur Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2.

A  “Decatur Dollars” drawing will be held at 5:30 p.m. ECCC’s Warrior Wonderland will follow the parade.

Pine Grove Baptist Church  to host Edward’s Christmas dinner

The Edwards Christmas dinner will be Saturday, Dec. 9 in the fellowship hall at Pine Grove Baptist Church, House. Lunch will be served at noon.

Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish and enjoy fellowship.

American Legion Post 89 and Auxiliary to host Christmas meeting

The American Legion Post 89 and Auxiliary will have their Christmas meeting at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9 at the hut.The speaker will be Justice Court Judge Scott Round.

Pot luck is the order of the day.

Relay for Life announces meeting dates

The Relay for Life planning committee has announced five meeting dates for this 2018.  The dates are:

• 6:30 p.m. Tuesday,  Dec. 12 at Chow Hall

• 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9

• 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13

• 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13

• 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 (Bank night).

Extension service holding third annual Project Purse

For a third straight year the MSU Extension Service of Newton County is sponsoring a community service project by collecting new or gently used purses filled with toiletry items to distribute to individuals living in community-based housing. Call 601-635-7011 or 601-482-9764.

For a list of suggested toiletry items. Donations can be dropped off at the MSU Extension office at 65 Seventh St., Decatur.

The donation deadline is Dec. 15.

Elf training returns to county libraries

The Kemper Newton County Regional Library System will again be hosting elf training for kids ages 5-12 in December. Children will be able to learn skills to be ready to assist Santa as honorary elves this holiday season.

Activities will include designing their own wrapping paper, creating a unique holiday ornament, decorating and eating cookies and enjoying a special interactive story.

The Newton library session will be from 4-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, the Union library session will be from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 and the Decatur library session will be from 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21.

Ministry hosts support groups

Free Indeed Ministries, 110 Main St., Union, is hosting weekly addiction support groups sponsored by Mending Broken Lives ministries at 7-8 p.m. every Tuesday night.
