Lake’s Qualls headlines local players named to All-District

The Region 4-2A coaches recently named their all-region selections for the previous seasons.

Leading the way was Mark Qualls, who was named the region’s offensive MVP after finishing the season with 1,187 yards on 171 carries and 19 touchdowns. Overall, the Hornets placed three players on the region’s Super 22 team, four on the first team and five on honorable mention.

Newton had five players on the Super 22 team, four on the first team and one on honorable mention. Union had one player on the Super 22, three on the first team and two on honorable mention.

Here’s a breakdown of the team:

2017 All-Region 4-2A

Offensive MVP: Marquarious Qualls, Lake

Super 22 selections 

Quarterback: Tre Hillie, Newton

Wide Receivers: Javarious Moore, Newton

Offensive Lineman: Cole Nester, Lake, and Ravell Buckley, Newton

Defensive Lineman: Zeke Chapman, Lake, and Aaron Campbell, Lake

Linebackers: Sirvares Snow, Newton, and Michael McDonald, Union

Defensive backs: Zackariah Johnson and Alex Hamilton, Newton

First-team selections

Lake: Seth Prestage, Tim Norris, Danarrious Hughes and Johnny Johnson

Newton: Jemariaus Ford, Zachary Johnson, Aurelius Hardy and Courtney Hardaway, Newton

Union: Colby Ferguson, Garrett Posey and Peyton Posey

Honorable Mention

Lake: Zywon Ledbetter, Cantrell Banks, D’Alex Jennings, Ethan Gray and Theory Harris

Newton: Devin Robinson and Jay Roberts

Union: Lane Hanna and Dustin Welborn.
