Decatur couple Sid and Jackie Etie were selected as grand marshals of the 2017 Decatur Christmas parade and will be honored at the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce at its annual banquet on Feb. 24 at ECCC.



JACKSON – Renown artist and Conehatta native Joe Overstreet, will be among the five honorees at the 30th annual Mississippi Governor’s Arts Awards, which will air on MPB Television and MPB Think Radio at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15.

The Distinguished Young Woman program for Newton County will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at ECCC’s Huff Auditorium.

Doors will open around 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door and program books will be $5.

For more than four decades, Decatur Volunteer Fire Department Chief Raymond Overstreet has helped keep residents in Decatur and around Newton County safe.

The Newton Tigers had six players sign to play football at the next level last week.

Two of those players signed with four-year schools while four signed with junior colleges.

The defending 2A state champion Union Yellowjackets flexed their muscle at the Region 2-2A powerlifting meet last week.
