ECCC PBL students earn top honors in state competition


Members of East Central Community College’s Theta Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda received top honors during the State Leadership Conference and qualified for national competition in 16 categories. National competition will be held this summer in Baltimore, Md. The state conference was held at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus.



City mourns loss of Gordon


The City of Union suffered a huge loss this weekend as longtime Union Municipal Judge and Board of Aldermen Attorney Rex Gordon Jr., passed away suddenly late Saturday night.

Newton County coroner Danny Shoemaker said Gordon died of a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead just before midnight at Laird Hospital in Union.


Roy C. White

Graveside services for Roy C. White will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 at Mississippi Veterans Cemetery in Newton.

Mr. White, 89, of Hickory, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. The Revs. Mark Vincent and Wayne Griffith will officiate.

Mrs. Debra Faye McElhenney Crawford, 60, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at her home in Decatur. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the Wolf Funeral Services Chapel in Lake with burial following in the Dennis Cemetery.
