ECCC defeats Meridian for seventh straight Win

Freshman guard Roti Ware continued his hot play of late dropping in 31 points to lead the East Central Community College Warriors to their seventh straight win 89-77 over the Meridian Community College Eagles in a game played on the MCC campus Thursday, Jan. 11.

Mrs. Jeanette Robinson, 87, passed away on Jan. 11, 2018.

Jeanette was born in Chunky to Fulton Harris and Lorene Harris.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 at Newton County Funeral Home-South.

Hospital still in bankruptcy

Ascentium Healthcare Resources will be taking over the management of Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest and businesses that were being managed by Pioneer Health Services.

However, it will not include the former Pioneer Community Hospital of Newton, according to Sydney Sawyer, chief executive of the newly formed Ascentium.

Mr. Lum J. “L.J.” Jacobs, 91, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at his home in Lawrence. Visitation was held from noon to 1:45 p.m. Sunday Dec. 3 at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake. City mourns loss of Gordon

The City of Union suffered a huge loss this weekend as longtime Union Municipal Judge and Board of Aldermen Attorney Rex Gordon Jr., passed away suddenly late Saturday night.

Newton County coroner Danny Shoemaker said Gordon died of a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead just before midnight at Laird Hospital in Union.
