Kirkwood, Hamil to wed in March

Kathy and Larry Hamil of Union are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, Charles Barrett Hamil, to Kathryn Lin Kirkwood, the daughter of Jan and Jeffri Kirkwood of Natchez.

The groom is the grandson of Jean and Charles Ray Hamil of Union and the late Verla and N.G. Barrett of Decatur.

Three girls vie for Distinguished Young Woman title on Saturday

The Distinguished Young Woman program for Newton County will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at ECCC’s Huff Auditorium.

Doors will open around 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door and program books will be $5.

They are competing for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of Newton County for 2019.  They are all juniors.

Mr. Duncan, 61, of Preston, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and the past president of ABATE. He was also responsible for having May be named as Motorcycle Awareness Month in the state of Mississippi.

City mourns loss of Gordon

The City of Union suffered a huge loss this weekend as longtime Union Municipal Judge and Board of Aldermen Attorney Rex Gordon Jr., passed away suddenly late Saturday night.

Newton County coroner Danny Shoemaker said Gordon died of a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead just before midnight at Laird Hospital in Union.
