Meridian VA Clinic to host Hepatitis C testing
Jessica Branning, an English literature teacher at Union Middle School, was honored Friday, March 2, during the Mississippi Association of Educators' inaugural Mississippi Excellence in Education Awards held at the Jackson Convention Center.
Branning received the 2018 MS Excellence in Education Teaching Inspiration Award.

Members of East Central Community College’s Theta Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda received top honors during the State Leadership Conference and qualified for national competition in 16 categories. National competition will be held this summer in Baltimore, Md. The state conference was held at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus.
It was a rough week on the baseball diamond for Newton County as they lost three games.
The Cougars opened Division 5-4A play and were swept by Northeast Lauderdale 12-4 and 12-2. Then on Saturday, the Cougars lost a 9-7 contest to Morton to finish out the week.
Newton County Academy's pre-district schedule extracted three more losses last week.
The Generals lost a pair of games to Leake Academy, falling 7-3 on Monday night and 7-6 on Thursday. Then on Friday, the Generals lost 11-1 to Lamar School to finish out the week.
The Union Yellowjackets got in plenty of baseball this week, including a pair of extra-inning games with Stringer in a non-division series.
Union won game 1 of the series on Tuesday 8-7 in eight innings and the Red Devils returned the favor on Friday with an 8-7 win in nine innings.
