W. R. “Bill” Thomas went to his heavenly home on Feb. 18 with his daughter by his side.
Born in Paxton, Fla., to Raleigh and Susie Thomas, he was the oldest of six. He served in the Air Force and Air Force reserve. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was a 32nd degree Mason. A member of the Lions Club, he enjoyed giving eye tests and raising money for children’s glasses every year.
When W.R. moved to Mississippi he immediately started looking for a church home and found it at the First Baptist Church of Union. He loved to hear Mrs. Capps sing on Sunday and enjoyed spending time with members of the congregation.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirlen (Watkins) ; his daughter Tammie Thomas, brothers Bob and his wife, Joyce, Vera, Lowell and his wife, Jeneace, Mickey and his wife, Mary; and beloved sister, Annie Carnley and husband, Jackie; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He treasured them all.
