Meet the Staff:
BRENT MAZE, editor/publisher
Brent Maze is the editor and publisher. He oversees the entire operation of the newspaper. He is responsible for ensuring that the newspaper is profitable while also providing the best community news and most effective advertising option in our coverage area. He is a veteran journalist and has won many awards in both Mississippi and Alabama for writing and photography during his career. Brent is originally from Kimberly, Ala., and came to The Newton County Appeal in April 2015. He is the current president of the Newton Chamber of Commerce board of directors, president of the Newton Rotary Club and serves as vice president of the Friends of Central Mississippi Residential Center board of directors. He attends Decatur United Methodist Church.
DEMETRIUS THOMPSON, managing editor
Demetrius Thompson is the managing editor of The Newton County Appeal. After earning his degree in journalism from Southern Miss University, he has worked at both weekly and daily newspapers before joining The Appeal staff in 2015. Demetrius has won awards for writing and photography. He is involved in many civic activities, including a member of the Friends of the Kemper/Newton County Library System and Mississippi Regional Extension System board.
AMANDA SKINNER, advertising
Amanda Skinner is an advertising representative for the Newton County Appeal. She is a graduate of East Central Community College and Mississippi State University. Amanda works directly with our customers to understand their needs and establish plans marketing plans that get results. In addition to serving as an advertising representative for The Appeal, she has also previously worked at the Scott County Times. Amanda is a native of Lake. She is married to Mike Skinner, and they have three daughters.
MEMORY DAY, classifieds, legal and bookkeeping
Memory Day is the bookkeeper. She oversees the classifieds and legal department and ensures keeps track of our accounting and bookkeeping. Memory works directly with our customers to help them with their advertising needs for classifieds and legals. She also keeps track of our billing and payments along with maintaining our subscriber roll. Memory is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of Meridian Community College. She has one daughter.
MARTY MORGAN, production assistant
Marty Morgan is our production assistant. He helps build ads for clients, assists customers with subscriptions and performs many other duties. He is the husband of Dr. Andrea Morgan, and they couple resides with their two daughters in Newton.
HENRY FINLEY, delivery/mailroom manager
Henry Finley is the mailroom manager and the delivery driver for The Appeal.
ROBBIE ROBERTSON, production assistant
Robbie Robertson is the sports editor for the Newton County Appeal. He is a veteran of the newspaper industry, having worked with numerous newspapers including the Meridian Star and the Newton Record.
