Services at Grace United on Sunday were awesome with the message and communion was brought by Bro. Jamie Leach. There were great night services and we had a good attendance.
Thanks to all the Hickory, Decatur and Newton firemen, firewomen, paramedics and everyone who worked out in the cold last week, during an early morning fire in Hickory that destroyed a home.
Funeral services for Mr. William Holt were held at on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Holt passed away from this life on
Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, in Rogers, Ark. The Rev. Mike Sutton officiated and interment was in Decatur Cemetery.
Saulters-Moore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Jones, Jimmy Johnson, Bucky Burness and Tommy Jones. William Monroe Holt was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Newton County, to Charles and Mavis Thorne Holt. He was a technician in the gas pipeline business. Mr. Holt was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and one daughter, Gale Taylor.
Mr. Holt is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lorene Holt of Rogers, Ark.; one son, William Timothy (Regina) of Rogers; one son-in-law, Charlie Taylor of Hattiesburg; five
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five sisters, Vie Everette, Joyce Johnson, Anette Airhart, Nell McAully and Dot Mosley; and one brother, Lavelle Holt.

Recipe for the week: Old fashion sour cream pound cake
Ingredients: 3 cups sugar, 1 cup butter, 6 eggs, separated, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 1 cup sour cream, 3 cups all-purpose flour, sift before measuring, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon salt.
Directions: Cream together sugar and butter, add the egg yolks one at a time.
Beat well after each addition. Blend in vanilla, lemon juice and sour cream into a separate bowl, sift sifted flour, salt and soda. Add sifted dry ingredients to batter, beat well. In separate bowl beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold egg whites into the cake batter. Pour into a greased and floured tube or bundt pan and bake at 300 degrees for about 1-1/2 hours or until done. Cool 10 minutes and remove from pan.
