WoodmanLife to host Memorial Day service

By VIRGINIA WELCH,

I hope everyone had a lovely Mother’s Day and early week and trust it will just get better as the week progresses.

Mary Ware reports that Woodman Life of Union, Chapter 332, will sponsor a Memorial Day service at 10  a.m. on Monday, May 28 at the Mini-Park in downtown Union. Everyone is invited to attend.

I am happy to announce that Summer’s baby boy, Henry Cole Smith, noisily greeted the world at 4:32 p.m. on Friday, May 11. He weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces and is 19 ½ inches. I wasn’t there to meet him, but I will do so at their home Sunday, when I return to Union from West Monroe.

I spent Mother’s Day with my sister Pat, her oldest son Steve and his family. It’s always great to fellowship with them. We had a lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs, compliments of her husband, Donnie. After lunch, Pat and I went to her middle son Bret’s home, where we visited around the swimming pool and watched his grandchildren play in the water. By the time we left, the heat was stifling. It was good to get home and into cool and comfortable clothes with a bottle of cold water and, of course, the air conditioning.

I spoke with Chelle last night and she will be joining me here Thursday. So excited! I spoke with all of my children except Sam yesterday, but didn’t get to see any of them. This is the best Mother’s Day gift I could have.

Pat came in last night with a dozen red roses for me. I had given her a big, potted begonia and I was really surprised that she brought flowers for me. They look beautiful on my kitchen island.

My oldest sister, Carol, is in Houston right now but should return on Wednesday. I have a potted lavender colored daisies for her when she arrives. I hope we all get some sister/family time together before I leave on Sunday.

For those who are heading home after Mothers’ Day, I pray you all safe travel. Please do the same for me as I head home in a few days. Stay safe, be grateful for all your blessings and plan to see me here again next week.
