NHS to host Vaughn Grisham Fellows ceremony

The Vaughn Grisham/Newton High School fellows program ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at the Newton High School Auditorium in Newton.

This partnership between The University of Mississippi, The McLean Institute at Ole Miss and Newton High School is presently in its third year. Representatives from Ole Miss will be present, including NHS and Ole Miss grad Bruce Ware, keynote speaker D. T. Shackleford and Dr. Vaughn Grisham, the founder of The McLean Institute For Public Service And Community Engagement.

The freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior students who have been selected to participate this year will be announced at this ceremony.

Parents, friends, community leaders, and the public are invited to attend.

Special blood drive for Bryden Reed at Clark Venable

Mississippi Blood Services will be holding a special blood drive for Bryden Reed from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4. The drive will be set up inside Clark Venable Baptist Church, located at 362 W. Broad St. in Decatur. Donors will receive a T-shirt (while supplies last).

Newton County Elementary School to host blood drive

Newton County Elementary School will be holding a blood drive with Mississippi Blood Services from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. The MBS donor coach will be at the school. Donors will receive a T-shirt or spinner pen (while supplies last).

Chunky to host  ‘Let’s Play for D’Jay’ blood drive

Union Summer League registration is underway

Registration for the Union Summer Recreation Summer League is underway. Parents can register at the Union City Hall until Feb. 16. The cost will be $45 for all ages and this does not include uniforms. For more information, call 601-774-9422.

ECCC to host Father/daughter Valentine Dance” Feb. 9

The East Central Community College Choral Department will host a Father/Daughter Valentine Dance on Friday, Feb. 9 on the Decatur campus.

The event will feature a Princess Theme for ages five and up and will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Mabry Memorial Cafeteria. The cost is $30 per couple and if a father has more than one daughter, it is an additional $5 per child.  Light refreshments will be included.

The Relay for Life planning committee has announced five meeting dates for this 2018.  The dates are:

• 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13

• 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13

• 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 (Bank night).
