Decatur to host wrestling fundraiser for American Legion

Decatur High School gym (now the East Central Community College south campus gym) will host five SWA Champion Wrestling matches starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.

The event will be a fundraiser for the Decatur American Legion.

The event will feature matches between Blake Wilder and Gold Simon Philips, Nick Wonder and Lukas Frost, the Son of the Junkyard Dog and Barry Wolf, a tag team match between The Southern Sensations and Big Ramp Enterprises, and a championship match between SWA Southern Heavyweight Champion Joe “The Prince of Pain” Kane and challenger Nate Moss.

Ringside tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at Massey’s Napa store and the Chow Hall. Adult general admission costs $8, $6 for children 6-12 and admission is free for children under 6. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

Newton County 4-H Club hosts robotics and LEGOS club

The Newton County 4-H Club will host a youth LEGOS and robotics club for children ages 5-7. The dash robotics will be at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 8 and March 22 at the MSU Extension Service Office in Decatur. Space is limited for this program. The LEGOS club will be for children ages 5 and up and will be at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 15 and March 29.

The NXT robotics club will be for youth ages 8-13 who are interested in developing skills to build and program robots.

The program will kick off at 4 p.m. Feb. 13 via interactive video or Scopia. Call the 4-H office at 601-635-7011 for more information.

Present Day Club Union birthday calendars on sale

The Present Day Club of Union is taking orders through March for the community birthday calendars. Calendars cost $6 and each listing is .50 cents.

Union Summer League registration ends Friday

Registration for the Union Summer Recreation Summer League is underway. Parents can register at the Union City Hall until Friday, Feb. 16. The cost will be $45 for all ages and this does not include uniforms. For more information, call 601-774-9422.  

MFWC Present Day Club of Union to host rummage sale

The MFWC Present Day Club of Union will have a large multi-family rummage sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 3 at the red brick home at 910 East Jackson Road, Union (near future Piggly Wiggly site). Donations of items for the sale are welcomed as the event funds many community projects, including the backpack ministry at Union Public Schools.

Newton County 4-H Club to host art club

The Newton County 4-H Club will host an art club for youth ages 8-18 at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 12 and March 5. mdriley@eccc.edu.

Relay for Life announces meeting dates 

The Relay for Life planning committee has announced five meeting dates for this 2018.  The dates are: • 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13 • 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 • 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 (Bank night). For more information, call 601-562-4830. 

Newton County 4-H Club to host Sewing 101

The Newton County 4-H Club will host a Sewing 101 class for youth ages 10 and up and adults at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 26 and March 26. There is no cost to join but there may be some expense involved in the program. For more information, call the MSU Extension Office at 601-635-7011.

Ministry hosts support groups

Free Indeed Ministries, 110 Main St., Union, is hosting weekly addiction support groups sponsored by Mending Broken Lives ministries at 7-8 p.m. every Tuesday night.
