Lake 2-2 during spring break

The Lake Lady Hornets split four games over the spring break as they get ready to begin division softball play.

Playing at Kosciusko on Monday, Lake lost 8-3 to the Lady Whippets and then beat Ethel 15-2. On Saturday at the Clarkdale Tournament at Northeast Park, Lake beat West Harrison 13-7 and lost 6-2 to Bay High.

Lake, now 9-4 on the season, will return to action as they host Newton on Tuesday and Philadelphia on Thursday in division contests.  On Saturday, Lake will play at the Sebastopol Tournament. The Lady Hornets will play Nanih Waiya at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Ethel at 11:45 a.m.

Kosciusko 8, Lake 3

Kosciusko scored eight runs in the first two innings and took a five-run win over Lake on Monday.

After Kosciusko jumped out to an 8-0 lead, Lake scored two in the third and one in the fifth.

Lake had 10 hits in the contest as Hannah Wilkerson was 3-for-4 with a double, one run scored and one RBI while Reagan Clark was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Taylor Duncan and Jordan McLemore each had singles and scored a run while Landry LeBlanc and Alana Edmonds each had singles.

Kate Gladney pitched six innings as she gave up eight runs on 10 hits. She struck out two and walked four.

Lake 15, Ethel 2

The Lady Hornets needed just 3 1/2 innings to dispose of Ethel on Monday at Kosciusko.

Lake scored four in the first, nine in the second and two in the third.

Lake had 10 hits in the contest, led by Taylor Duncan who was 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs. Hannah Wilkerson was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Reagan Clark and Laurel Breland were each 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Josie Gibbs had Lake’s other hit while Landry LeBlanc scored two runs and had two RBIs.

Jordan McLemore pitched all four innings as she gave up two runs on four hits while striking out three and walking two.

Lake 13, West Harrison 7

Lake used a pair of five-run innings to take a six-run, time-limit win over West Harrison on Saturday.

After scoring five in the first, Lake added three in the second to take an 8-5 lead. The Hornets then scored five more in the fourth for their final runs.

Lake had 13 hits in the contest as Landry LeBlanc was 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Laurel Breland was 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Reagan Clark was 2-for-4. Kaytie Hillman had a double, scored two runs and drove in two runs while Alana Edmonds had a single, walked twice and drove in two runs.

Taylor Duncan got the start and pitched all four innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits as she struck out three and walked four.

Bay 6, Lake 2

Bay High scored three runs in the first and third innings and took a four-run win over Lake on Saturday.

Lake scored one run in the third and sixth innings for their runs.

Lake had just three hits in the contest and struck out 12 times against the hard-throwing Gracey Adkins. Taylor Duncan was 2-for-3 while Reagan Clark had Lake’s other hit. Duncan and Jordan McLemore each scored runs while Hannah Wilkerson had Lake’s other RBI.

Kate Gladney pitched the first three innings, giving up six runs on five hits while striking out two. Jordan McLemore pitched two shutout innings and gave up one hit and two walks.
