Newton Theatre Company to hold auditions for 'Pride and Prejudice'

The Newton Theatre Company will be holding auditions for its upcoming show “Pride and Prejudice,” adapted from Jane Austen’s novel by Jon Jory. This production will be under the direction of Katherine Grisham.  Performance dates will be June 1-3, 2018. The company is seeking actors, ages 15 and up to complete this fun-filled cast.


JoAnn Smith

JoAnn Mitchell Smith, 78, passed away on March 26, 2018 at her home.

JoAnn was born in Conehatta, to Roger and Oberia Mitchell. JoAnn was married to Wharton P. Smith Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., for over 57 years.



Thorne, Kelly to wed in April

Johnnie and Laura Thorne of Decatur are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their son, Nolan Thorne, to Katie Kelly, the daughter of Kathy Kelly of Mathiston. 

The bride is the granddaughter of Becky Kelly and the late Col. James Kelly of Mathiston.

City mourns loss of Gordon

The City of Union suffered a huge loss this weekend as longtime Union Municipal Judge and Board of Aldermen Attorney Rex Gordon Jr., passed away suddenly late Saturday night.

Newton County coroner Danny Shoemaker said Gordon died of a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead just before midnight at Laird Hospital in Union.
