Eight Philadelphia residents indicted federally in major drug trafficking operation

JACKSON – Eleven defendants, including eight from the Philadelphia area, are facing federal drug charges in multiple indictments unsealed on Wednesday targeting a large, multi-state drug trafficking operation in East Central Mississippi. The indictments were announced U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst, Special Agent in Charge Jere T.






Charlene Pearson

Funeral services for Charlene Pearson were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29 at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel in Union. Bro. Rick Benson officiated. Burial followed at Union City Cemetery.

Mrs. Pearson, 83, of Union, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018, at UMMC in Jackson.




Bernice Hoyt

Services for Bernice Clark Hoyt will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2 in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home-Meridian. The Rev. Ron Leonard will be officiating. Burial will follow in Herbert Baptist Church Cemetery in the House community.

City mourns loss of Gordon

The City of Union suffered a huge loss this weekend as longtime Union Municipal Judge and Board of Aldermen Attorney Rex Gordon Jr., passed away suddenly late Saturday night.

Newton County coroner Danny Shoemaker said Gordon died of a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead just before midnight at Laird Hospital in Union.
