Funeral services for Charles Hagan were held at noon Wednesday, April 4 at Stephens Funeral Home of Union. Bro. Jeff Hancock officiated. Burial was at Union City Cemetery.

Mr. Hagan, 75, of Union, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018, at his home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elnora McCraw Rigdon will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home of Union. The Rev. John Martin will be officiating. Burial will follow in Union City Cemetery.



James Wolverton

James W. Wolverton passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Funeral services were conducted by Wilcox Funeral Home, Carthage, at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 20. Interment with military honors followed at High Hill Cemetery in Walnut Grove. The Rev.



James Griffith

Services for Rev. James E. Griffith were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union. Burial were held at 1:30 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Carthage.

Visitation was held one hour prior to service Wednesday at Milling Funeral Home of Union.

Hospital still in bankruptcy

Ascentium Healthcare Resources will be taking over the management of Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest and businesses that were being managed by Pioneer Health Services.

However, it will not include the former Pioneer Community Hospital of Newton, according to Sydney Sawyer, chief executive of the newly formed Ascentium.

City mourns loss of Gordon

The City of Union suffered a huge loss this weekend as longtime Union Municipal Judge and Board of Aldermen Attorney Rex Gordon Jr., passed away suddenly late Saturday night.

Newton County coroner Danny Shoemaker said Gordon died of a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead just before midnight at Laird Hospital in Union.
