Funeral services for Demetrius Montoria Thompson, 40, of Decatur will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Bassfield Pentecostal Church, 921 Graves & Keys Road, Bassfield, Miss.

Visitation will be Friday July 13, 2018, 6-8 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home in Mt. Olive, Miss. There will also be a visitation from 10-11 a.m. Saturday before the service at the church.

Mr. Thompson passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian.

Mr. Thompson was born on Oct. 6, 1977, in Bassfield, Mississippi, to Versie & Geneva Thompson. He attended Bassfield High School and graduated in 1996. He furthered his education at the University of Southern Mississippi where he majored in journalism.

He worked several places in his lifetime including Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Mt. Vernon, Texas, and The Delta Democrat Times in Greenville, Miss., at the time of his death he was working at The Newton County Appeal in Union, Miss. He loved to write and read books. He also served as the treasurer of the Friends of Kemper-Newton Libraries.

He is survived by his loving parents, Versie and Geneva Thompson of Bassfield, Miss.; four sisters Carolyn Thompson and Tammy Thompson, both of Hattiesburg, Miss., Lisa Thompson of New Orleans, La., and Martina Hicks (Jonathan) of Little Elm, Texas; a brother, Darryl Graves of Bryum, Miss.; three nieces, Jasmine Pettus of Washington, D.C., Jade Thompson of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Amelia Hicks of Little Elm, Texas; and a nephew, Brett Thompson of Hattiesburg.
