Judith Kathryn Luke, 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, in Johnson City, Tenn., following complications from surgery.Judy was adored by her family and many friends and will be greatly missed.
Judy was born in Union on Aug. 8, 1939 to the late James S. and Kathryn M. Luke. She graduated from Union High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. At Southern, Judy was a Kappa Delta and a proud member of the Dixie Darlings.
Prior to Johnson City, Judy lived in Kingsport, Tenn., and was active in Junior League, Kingsport Garden Club, and The Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities, among other organizations. Judy also volunteered with several organizations, including The Boys Club and Allandale Mansion.
In Johnson City, Judy was actively involved in the early days of Grace Fellowship Church and in the startup of Doe River Gorge, a successful Christian summer camp. Judy was fluent in Spanish and spent several winters in Costa Rico. She loved it's culture and it's people and enjoyed frequenting other areas of the region.
Judy is survived by her son, James Chase Boles of Johnson City; a daughter-in-law, Carol Griffith Boles; three grandchildren, Olivia, Jared and Seth Boles; a brother Jim Luke of Meridian; two sisters, Lizbeth Andrews, Atlanta and Susan Luke, Milton, Ga.; two nephews, Dal Luke, Boerne, Texas, and Chip Luke, Union; and a niece, Leslie Luke Baker, Roswell, Ga.
A celebration of life honor of Judy will be held at a later date in Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
