Roy C. White
Graveside services for Roy C. White will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 at Mississippi Veterans Cemetery in Newton.
Mr. White, 89, of Hickory, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. The Revs. Mark Vincent and Wayne Griffith will officiate.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his father Eugene C. White; and his mother, Mildred P. White; and two sisters: Irma Spann and Florene Adkinson.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sylvia B. White, of Hickory; a son, R. Kevin White, of Hickory; two grandchildren, Carianne White and Colin R. White; a sister, June Youngblood; a nephew Lee Youngblood (Carol); and a niece, Lynn Wagner.
Mr. White was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He owned and operated White Timber Company for almost 60 years. After graduation from Hickory High School he played professional baseball for the Cleveland Indians organization and semi-pro baseball with several clubs in East Mississippi. While in the military overseas he was assigned to help organize baseball clinics and teams in Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, South Korea.
Mr. White was an avid collector of classic automobiles and a long time member of Meridian’s Vintage Wheels Car Club having owned, restored and displayed dozens of vintage cars and trucks since he began collecting more than 40 years ago. He was a faithful member of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church of Decatur and its Caleb Sunday school class.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Clarke-Venable Baptist Church.
