Loose Caboose Festival nears

It’s only a few weeks away before Newton’s annual Loose Caboose Festival, and from what I can tell, this should be one of the best if not the best that we’ve ever had.

Serving as president of the Newton Chamber of Commerce has allowed me to be involved with some of the planning, although all of the credit for the planning should go to our director Emily Pugh.

Just like two years ago, we will be hosting Doctor Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster band on Friday night, March 30. Then, we have a fun-filled day of action on Saturday, March 31, for the annual festival.

It’s also the third year in a row that the Newton Chamber’s Festival has fallen on Easter weekend. Two years ago, it’s because the final weekend of March fell on Easter weekend.

Last year, rain on the final Saturday in March caused us to postpone the event and was then rescheduled for Easter weekend in April.

It seems like this has worked out the last two years, and I think it should be another great year for the festival.

Some of you might want to get involved and help with the festival.

I’ve got good news for you.

We are going to have our first-ever volunteer meeting for the Loose Caboose Festival next Thursday, Feb. 22. Emily will be conducting the meeting, and she’s going to be asking those who show up at this meeting how they can help.

I’m sure Emily has something fun cooked up for this event. I wouldn’t be surprised that anyone who comes will leave there energized for the Loose Caboose Festival just over a month away from the meeting.

If you’re a student that would like to earn some community service hours or you just want to give back to the community to help make this festival a success, then this meeting is for you.

I hope to see many of you there next week.
