Ready to get 2018 underway

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to get back to work after the holidays.

While I love Christmas and New Year’s, it can be very tiring. I have been burning up the road with travel over the past two weeks, heading back home to Alabama to see my parents and attending the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. By the way, thank you Mississippi State for carrying the banner of the SEC by defeating Louisville and Lamar Jackson.

It’s been a lot of fun getting to spend time with my parents and the rest of my immediate family and friends. It included last-minute Christmas shopping (by the way, my mom really loved the present I got at Hickory Pick’N), reading in the Decatur UMC Christmas Eve service, playing laser tag with my nephews, taking family photos, ringing in the New Year with a pops symphony including Star Trek and Star Wars pieces, of both I am a fan despite not having seen “The Last Jedi”as of me writing this column on the way to the Peach Bowl.

But I am ready to get back in the routine with some minor adjustments to help me work on my New Year’s resolutions.

As I wrote in last week’s column, 2017 was a difficult year for me, but it was rewarding as I was able to build many new relationships and deepen relationships with others.  I hope to continue to meet more of you in Newton County and work with everyone as our county grows.

This year is getting off to one of the coldest starts that we’ve had in many years. We were spoiled with such a mild winter last year. There were only a couple of cold days last year, but we’re making up for it this winter season.

Please make sure that you dress warmly and keep your faucets dripping.

I hope you have a Happy New Year and if you have any news ideas for us, please feel free to give us a call at 601-774-9433, send me an email at bmaze@newtoncountyappeal.com or send Demetrius an email at
