The people of Newton County are once again showing love for their neighbors. Locals are opening up their hearts and wallets to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey, which caused devastation all along the Texas Gulf Coast.
A few of the drives that we are aware of as of Friday, Newton County High School, Union High School and Hickory Pick’N are collecting emergency supplies for Texas storm victims. United Methodist Churches in our area are collecting items to build “flood bucket” emergency kits through the United Methodist Committee on Relief, along with sending monetary donations to storm victims.
There are numerous other efforts that Newton Countians are participating in, but there’s no way to mention them all.
This is a chance to pay it forward after Mississippi was helped so much during Katrina and other recent disasters. Our area has been blessed by those who have helped us, and now we have an opportunity to be a blessing to those during their time of need after such a devastating storm.
