House passes bills to help with flood control projects, railroad revitalization

Friday, Feb. 23, marked the deadline for House appropriations and revenue bills to be introduced and passed. The House Appropriations Committee finished considering bills regarding budgets for state entities last week, but the Ways and Means Committee still needed to approve a few bills to meet the deadline.


Senate approves bill to increase safety for MDOT workers

This week we cleared for transfer to the House, Senate Bill 2555 that would allow the Department of Transportation to call on for assistance and reimburse police agencies across the state to assist with traffic enforcement in dangerous areas and especially in work zones, where multiple deaths and injuries have occurred across the years.












City releases final ordinance

A new ordinance regulating dogs and other animals for residents in the City of Newton will go into effect 30 days from today.

The ordinance in its entirety can be found on Page 5B of today’s Newton County Appeal. The regulations were adopted by outgoing Board of Aldermen that only included two of the current aldermen.
