Union adds two dramatic wins


The Union Yellowjackets got a pair of blowout wins last week and lost two close contests as well to break even on the week.

Union lost 61-47 to Leake County and 46-40 to Philadelphia while taking a 46-27 win over Lake and a 76-27 win over Enterprise.

Union will not take to the hardwood until Friday when they play at Leake Central at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Jackets will take on Morton at 4:30 p.m. at Leake Central as well.

Leake County 61, Union 47

The Jackets fell to 1A power Leake County on Tuesday.

Union led 8-6 at the end of the first period before the Gators outscored the Jackets 20-12 in the second period to take a 26-20 lead at the half. The Gators took the lead for good in the third period as they outscored the Jackets 17-8 to take a 43-28 lead into the fourth.

P.J. Gage led Union with 19 points while J.T. Vance added nine points.

Union 46, Lake 27

Union outscored Lake in three of the four quarters and cruised to a 19-point win over the Hornets.

Union led 17-6 at the end of the first period and 24-16 at the half. The Jackets continued to pull away in the third as they outscored Lake 12-6 in the third and 10-5 in the fourth for the final margin.

P.J. Gage led a balanced scoring effort as he pumped in 17 points while Jay Norris had 12 points. Jamarian Harmon and J.T. Vance each scored six points apiece.

Philadelphia 46, Union 40

Philadelphia used a six-point advantage in the second period and held on in the second half to take a non-division win over the Jackets.

After each team scored nine points in the first period, Philadelphia outscored Union 11-5 in the second for a 20-14 halftime lead. Union outscored Philly 17-14 in the third to cut the lead to 34-31 but the Tornadoes pulled away for the six-point win.

J.T. Vance led Union with 14 points while P.J. Gage had eight points and Jay Norris added six points.

Union 76, Enterprise 27

The Jackets exploded for 27 first-period points and crushed Enterprise by 49 points.

After leading 27-3 at the end of the first period, Union continued to pour it on the second period, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-5 to lead 48-8 at the half. Union continued to pull away as they outscored Enterprise 13-4 in the third and 15-8 in the fourth.

Jay Norris led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points while Stephen Lewis had 13 points. Jamarious Jones had 12 points while Casey Morris had 11, P.J. Gage nine and Jamarian Harmon seven.
